Overnight oats – it sounds like you’re planning to hand roll kernels to make your own oats, but that’s not actually what overnight oats are. Nope, overnight oats are actually a lot easier to make and are actually a really fun way to shake up breakfast or weekend brunch. So what are overnight oats and how do you make them? Let’s dig in and find out!

Overnight oats are basically the stark opposite of warm oatmeal that you make on the stovetop. The gist is that instead of cooking the oats the traditional way, you mix rolled oats with liquids and toppings and let it infuse overnight. The result is flavored oatmeal that requires no cooking (unless you consider overnight refrigeration to be cooking) and is pretty tasty! And because the flavor of the liquid gets to soak in all night, they’re actually even more flavorful that stovetop oats, if for no other reason than they’ve got a longer time to let the flavors infuse into the oats. Either way, they’re a delicious and simple way to start the day, and everyone should learn how to make them.

How to Make Overnight Oats

The ideas are endless. But back to the basics. Overnight nights consists of a standard recipe that can be accentuated with toppings for flavor, but to create basic overnight oats you’ll need: 1/3 cup of rolled oats; 1/2 cup of milk; 1/3 cup of Greek yogurt; 1 Tbsp of chia seeds; a pinch of sugar; and a pinch of salt.
