Knowing how to make french toast is like knowing how to scramble an egg – you just gotta know how to do it. It becomes even more important if you have kids because french toast is just one of those quintessential Saturday morning meals that you make while the kids are watching cartoons. It just feels right. So today, we’re going to help you create those beautiful relaxing weekend mornings.

Here’s How to Make French Toast

French toast is a super simple recipe to follow, and it’s so basic that it leaves a lot of room for innovation. You can get creative with the toppings – fruit, light butter and sugar, powdered sugar, and syrup are all excellent options. And if you really want to try something new, you can spike the batter with some interesting spices to add a fun kick when you’re cooking the slices.

But to start, here’s what you need to do. Gather the following ingredients: 2 eggs, 1/2 cup of milk, bread slices (6-8), 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and 1 tsp vanilla extract. In a mixing bowl, whisk eggs and milk. Whisk in the cinnamon and vanilla extract. We love cinnamon, so sometimes we add a little extra to give it a stronger cinnamon kick. Feel free to do the same if you love it as much as we do.

Heat a griddle pan or large skillet with 2 tbsp of butter over medium high heat. Once the pan is heated up, dip a slice of bread into the egg and milk mixture, making sure to coat both sides evenly. Don’t leave the bread submerged for too long, or you’ll come out with super soggy french toast, which isn’t nearly as tasty. Cook each side so that it’s golden brown (about 1 minute on each side), toss on a plate, add butter or other toppings and keep warm. Finish cooking the remainder of the slices and serve warm.
