More so than any other time of the year, November and December is filled with holiday traveling. And if you have kids, that means keeping them satisfied and full through hours and hours of plane, train, and car travel. One thing that can help you keep your sanity is having some tasty snacks on hand. Not only will it save you from having to shell out $5 for a bag of peanuts, they’ll be tastier and probably a tad bit healthier too. Here’s four easy snacks that will make holiday traveling just a little less painful.

Roasted Chickpeas

Few things are better (or easier to make) than roasted chickpeas. The fancier version of trail mix, roasted chickpeas are the ideal travel food. They’re easy to make, they’re small and packable, they’re filling, and they’re delicious. What more can you ask for?

Chocolate Mocha Cookies

OK, so maybe these aren’t so healthy. But they are tasty! These chocolate mocha cookies can be whipped up in a large batch and will keep for a few days – if you can manage not to eat them all before them. And while you might not want to feed your family sugar-laden treats the whole time you’re traveling, these will satisfy a quick craving.

Falafel

What is it about chickpeas that make them such a great snack? Whether they’re roasted whole or ground up and fried, chickpeas are just a perfect easy snack. Fry up a batch of falafel the night before traveling, and pass them out when you’re on the road. And even though they make a great snack, the best part about falafel is that they can easily double as a quick and filling lunch.

British Scones

If you’re looking for another easy-to-make snack that can double as a quick meal, opt for biscuits or scones. They’re not terribly difficult to make, require only a handful of ingredients, and depending on what you add to the dough, can even double as a savory lunch.
