Easy Puff Pastry Ideas

Puff pastry is the greatest pastry dough that nobody wants to make. I get that. Easy puff pastry ideas quickly become more complicated when you have to make the pastry. It is not that it is difficult, it just takes a bit of time. I think everyone should try it once then handle all your easy puff pastry ideas with store bought, all butter puff pastry sheets. Since getting good quality puff pastry is not that difficult anymore, why not? It helps ensure those easy puff pastry ideas come to fruition instead of just being just that, ideas. Here is a round up of a few things to do with that puff pastry that was purchased at the store.

Easy Puff Pastry Ideas – #1 Vol au Vent
Vol au Vent is a simple pastry cup where a round of puff pastry is topped with a ring of puff pastry and then baked into a nice stuffable cup which can be filled with just about any filling you like. Filling ideas include creamed chicken like that found in chicken and dumplings. Creamed turkey would work just as well.

Easy Puff Pastry Ideas – #2. Pastry Horns
A fine horn of puff pastry filled with cream is a delicious thing. Sheets of puff pastry are cut into strips and the strips are wrapped around metal cone molds, sprinkled with sugar and baked. After baking, the horns are stuffed with rich vanilla whipped cream.Yum!

Easy Puff Pastry Ideas – #3. The Palmier
The palmier is the puff pastry cookie. A puff pastry sheet is is sprinkled with sugar (and I like cinnamon or cocoa) and rolled up from each end simultaneously creating 2 connected concentric circles. The pastry is then sliced into cookies from end to end and baked. The result is a nice crisp puff pastry cookie to dip on your coffee! Can you go savoury? Sure, spread sun dried tomato pesto on the pastry, roll, cut then bake. Yum!

Easy Puff Pastry Ideas – #4. Sacristans
For a sacristan, cover ½ of a full sheet of puff pastry dough with sugar (and shaved almonds if desired). Fold the other half of the puff pastry over the sugar half and roll it back into a rectangle the size of the original sheet. Slice the sheet with a pastry cutter into ½ inch strips and twist them. Bake into crunchy, sweet, delicious straws. Yes, the sugar can be replaced with parmesan cheese for a savoury version!

Easy Puff Pastry Ideas – #5. Turnovers or Apple And Dulce de Leche Mini Pies
Delicious fruit compotes are folded inside triangles or rounds of puff pastry and baked. Flaky pastry outside with delicious fruit fillings inside. A perfectly easy dessert to make! Plus, when it is served with dulce de leche and vanilla sauce it is even better.

Easy Puff Pastry Ideas – #6. Baked Apples in Puff Pastry
The classic baked apple is a cored apple stuffed with butter, nuts, raisins and spices baked until tender and delicious. Add puff pasty and this treat is elevated. The whole apple is stuffed, wrapped in puff pastry, sprinkled with sugar and baked. It is like having a pie all to yourself. Don’t forget to serve it with a dollop of dulce de leche or ice cream.

Easy Puff Pastry Ideas – #7. Band de Tarte
With sweet or savoury, a band de tarte is sure to impress. A long rectangle of puff pastry is cut and lined with strips of puff pastry to build up the walls a little. The bottom puff pastry is docked with a fork (this means poked with the tines of the fork) so it does not rise with the sides. This is baked until golden brown. For a savoury version, the bottom is then spread with herbed goat cheese and topped with slices of tomato. For a sweet version, the bottom spread with pastry cream and topped with slices of fresh strawberries or other fruit.
